Alta Pusteria in the holiday region Dolomites

The Alta Pusteria, called Hochpustertal in German, is located in the most easterly part of South Tyrol and it reaches all the way to East Tyrol. On the South Tyrolean side the upper part of the Val Pusteria comprises the municipalities of Braies, Villabassa, Dobbiaco, San Candido, and Sesto.

This region is also the home of the world-famous Dolomites which have been added to the UNESCO’s World Heritage list of natural sites. The Tre Cime di Lavaredo at the foot of which the Rienza river originates are the eponym of this region which is often called the “Land of the Three Peaks”.

Two conservation areas, namely the nature park Tre Cime di Lavaredo and the natural preserve Fanes – Senes – Braies with their unique flora and fauna spread across the Alta Pusteria.
