Plan de Corones / Kronplatz in the holiday region Dolomites

The region Kronplatz, called Plan de Corones in Italian, is located in the eastern part of the province and bears the name of South Tyrol’s most famous skiing area.

The area’s major localities are Brunico, San Vigilio di Marebbe, San Martino in Badia, Chienes, Valdaora, Monguelfo, the Val di Casies, and Anterselva. The overall appearance of the region’s landscape is characterised by the peaks of the Dolomites and those of the Zillertal Alps as well as by South Tyrol’s seven natural preserves. The nature parks Fanes – Senes – Braies, Puez – Odle, and Vedrette di Ries – Aurina offer a unique flora and fauna.

Brunico is the region’s main town and at the same time its commercial centre. It is often called the “Pearl of the Val Pusteria”. At this place the Aurino river which flows from the Valle Aurina and Tures to the Val Pusteria joins the Rienza river.
