Tauferer Ahrntal / Valle Aurina and Tures in South Tyrol

In the northeast of South Tyrol lies the Valle Aurina and Tures, called Tauferer Ahrntal in German. With a surface area of round about 629 square kilometres it is the largest tributary valley of the Val Pusteria.

The approximately 40 kilometre long valley which is traversed by the Aurino river starts in the north of Brunico and reaches all the way to the border with Austria – the municipality of Predoi which is the home of the famous show mine is Italy’s northernmost commune.

Apart from the Tauferer Ahrntal also the Valle Molini, the Valle Rio Bianco as well as the Valle di Riva make part of the holiday region Valle Aurina and Tures.

A part of this area belongs to the well-known nature park Gruppo delle Vedrette di Ries.

Worthwhile excursion destinations are the show mine of Predoi, the impressive Riva falls, and the imposing Tures Castle in the municipality of Campo Tures. The highest mountain in the region is the Picco dei Tre Signori. It is 3.499 m high and located at the border with Salzburg and East Tyrol.
