Valle Isarco in South Tyrol
The Valle Isarco, called
Eisacktal in German, is centrally located in South
Tyrol’s North. It reaches from the Austrian border at
the Passo del Brennero towards Vipiteno and all the way to
Bressanone and Ponte Gardena.
The Isarco river which is the second longest in all of
South
Tyrol originates at the Passo del Brennero and traverses the
homonymous valley.
The northern part of the valley which starts in Fortezza is
known as the Alta Val d’Isarco.
Vast wine-growing estates can be found in the
lower part of the Valle Isarco while further north
livestock farming is the main industry. |

Bressanone with its
picturesque town centre, its beautifully quaint alleys, and the
magnificent cathedral is not only the principal
locality of this holiday region but also the oldest Tyrolean town as
well as the former seat of the bishop. Other famous sights of the Valle
Isarco are for instance the show mine in Ridanna, the
fortress of Fortezza, the Novacella Monastery, and the Sabiona
Monastery above Chiusa.
